North Charles St. – Disney on Ice has announced an extension of their 2015 winter tour. This weekend only, their productions of Beauty and the Beast, as well as Finding Nemo, will be performed on the sidewalk between University Pkwy and the Varsity Apartments. Says director Fumiko Sao,
“We had originally scheduled to perform only in Washington, but with the constant melting and refreezing in Baltimore, we now have a perfect opportunity to bring our show to the Hopkins community.”
The stretch of sidewalk on which they plan to perform has been the bane of countless flat-footed students in recent weeks but now is being groomed for the graceful prancing of adults in fish costumes. Reactions among the student population have been mixed; many are excited for some entertainment amidst winter gloom, but some are more cynical.
Senior Paul Berger commented, “Midterm season is in full swing and the last thing I need on my way to the library is to be run over by a candlestick in tights.” Freshman Juniper Stahl said only, “I hope there’s a Zamboni.”
Sao is confident the productions will bring cheer to the icebound campus, saying,
“We know Hopkins students can get down this time of year, so we hope some skating will help their moods. We regret not being able to perform our most popular show, Frozen, but ever since the lead actress was arrested in South Carolina we’ve had to fall back on our older shows.”
